Sadly, Child Welfare is one of the major pipelines for child sex traffickers. More than 20,075 foster children disappear from the US Foster System each year with the numbers increasing.
Some will say, “they are just runaways” yet 60% of CSEC (Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children) victims are from the Child Welfare System. 70% of those trafficked are between the ages of 12-14 are foster children.

74% of children trafficked involved sex trafficking. A child is sold for sex approximately 20-30 times a day.
In Connecticut, “98% of children who are identified as survivors of sex trafficking had previous involvement with child welfare services, and many were legally in the care and custody of the state while they were being prostituted by traffickers."
24% of sex traffickers interviewed were at one point committed into foster care as a child.
